It seems apparent that YouTube is being forced to pull many of the Music Videos from it's site. That leaves us here at FIFA Soundtrack with a slight problem. From the start we beleived YouTube was the perfect place to get all our Embedded Videos from mainly because they have powerful servers which stream video very fast.

But this new development has left me and Robbie thinking maybe we need to look for a new place to source our audio from. We have ofcourse taken iTunes into account but they only give 30 seconds previews of the song which we don't really think is good enough :/

Amazon MP3 again only allows 30 second previews and their "widget" as you may well have noticed takes a considerable time to load up when there are several on one page.

So the point of this is to see if anyone has any ideas of other music stores that might suit us. We have been looking into "Spotify" a new service that is currently in beta which offers free streaming of music but unless you sign up for a monthly subscription you will get audio based adverts inbetweene every 2 or 3 songs. They seem quite an attractive prospect but at the moment there catalogue of music isn't quite vaste enough to cater for the wide range of songs that are on our site. That is the major benfit of iTunes it has such a large amount of music....

Any ideas are welcome   ;)

Spotify => Wrong... the beta is only working on Europe Countries, and it's kinda tricky to make it work out of there ;)

Try looking for other media sharing websites, i don't know.. Dailymotion, megavideo.... or maybe sites like esnips or imeem, in which you can upload just the song..

There are a lot of options out there... so take your time and explore =)

P.D. It has been weeks since i entered here last time... it's good to be back =D

Yh your right about spotify.

Oh I forgot about imeem and they have some really nice tools for developers so I'll give them a try.

Nice thinking, thanks big grin

Yh they arn't proving to be as popular as I'd hoped :P

For anyone thats interested still working on the new site but yet to decide where best to get the actualy music from.

Brief details of our thinking here:

YouTube        -  Problems with copyright, does have API's we're looking into though...

iTunes            - Only offers 30 second previews

iMeem            - Offers full songs but only if users have an iMeem account

Spotify            - Poor set of API's plus only availbe in certain countries

Amazon          - Slow flash based widgets and again only 30 second previews

Yahoo Music - Still looking into it..

Hosting the songs ourself ?

- High bandwidth costs

- Likely copyright problems

- Time consuming to aqquire all the songs

So many choices..    dry
